UNC Asheville students documenting hunger and poverty in Western North Carolina.
Caitlin Halloran: Production Manager
I’m a senior mass communication major and management minor. I’ve written for the Blue Banner, worked in student affairs, and taken a variety of communications, marketing, public relations, and advertising classes. I’m currently the Production Manager for the WNC Hunger project, and looking forward to getting to know my community!
Megan Dombroski: writer, photographer
I’m a senior mass communication student with concentration in journalism and minor and health and wellness promotion. I was on The Blue Banner, UNC Asheville’s student newspaper, for five semesters. While on the paper, I was a staff photographer, photography editor, campus voice editor, and distribution manager. Currently, I’m working with Mountain Xpress, as a freelance writer and guest blogger for their wellness news section.
Along with working on this documentary, I’ll be writing a seven piece series of articles looking closely at issues surrounding hunger in Western North Carolina for my senior capstone public affairs journalism class. I am excited to combine my passions of writing, photography, and health promotion to work on this documentary.
Noor Al-Sibai, writer, researcher and interviewer
I’m a junior double-majored in mass communications and international studies. I wrote for the UNCA paper, the Blue Banner, interned at the Asheville Citizen-Times in the Editorial section, and am currently conducting an internship with the Asheville Grown Business Alliance (the ones that make the “Love Asheville” signs and stickers). Although my concentration is on international and Middle Eastern journalism, I’m also very interested in researching and documenting the problems and nuances of poverty in Western North Carolina.
My roles in this project include writing, interviewing and researching. I’m so excited and proud to be working on this documentary project!
